This included the following biographical details: '(1916) Born 20 June 1898, Kirby Road, Leicester; son of Bernard Ellis, Merchant, and Isabel Clare Evans. Tutor(s): E E Sikes. Educ: Wyggeston School, Leicester; Sidcot School; Bootham School, York. Career: Royal Naval Air Service 1916; Active Service 1917. Died 20 May 1917 (shot down behind enemy lines).' He had only been in service for 3 months and is thought to have been the youngest Johnian to be killed.
