This included the following biographical details: '(1908) Born 25 December 1888, The Vicarage, Audlem, Cheshire; son of Arthur Atkinson, Clerk in Holy Orders, and Ursula Mary Hillyard. Tutor(s): E E Sikes. Educ: Charterhouse. Career: Second Lieutenant, 3rd Battalion, Cheshire Regiment 1913-1914. Honours: DSO 1915. Died 22 October 1914 (missing, presumed killed in action).' His DSO citation read: "Second Lieutenant Henry Noel Atkinson, 3rd Battalion the Cheshire Regiment; for conspicuous gallantry under a heavy fire from front and both flanks, by collecting a few men and checking the enemy, thereby facilitating the retirement of his comrades"
