Hornshaw and Fowler (see References) provide the extra details. He was lost in the unsuccessful attack on the Schwaben Redoubt on the 3rd September - along with many others from Halifax and of his regiment - but was later reported to have passed through a casualty clearing station. His date of death is listed by the CWGC as the 3rd but was reported in the local press as the 18th. What is certain is that he is also listed on IWM 2689.
