Notes
Hornshaw and Fowler provide service, death details and middle forename. He worked in insurance before enlisting in October 1914 and was wounded in March 1915 only a month after crossing to France: he was buried by a shell at Loos and suffered prolonged shell shock, amnesia and unconsciousness. After recovering in hospital in London he returned to his unit in February 1916 only to be wounded again, as well as again suffering shell-shock, in September 1916. He remained in convalescent camp until March 1917 but went missing and was presumed dead a month later. Twice he had been the only survivor of his platoon and he is commemorated on the Arras memorial.
