Hornshaw and Fowler provide service and death details. He enlisted in November 1914, was twice gassed, wounded and developed trench foot before receiving a head wound. He was evacuated to first Chester and then Llandudno hospital, his parents being summoned the day before he died - they arrived too late. He was engaged to a Miss F Collinge and buried in Heptonstall Churchyard.
