Hornshaw and Fowler provide all details. He was a keen footballer (goalkeeper) and a member of the Mechanics Institute although he worked as a warehouseman. He died on the first day of the Somme although his parents had been hoaxed in January 1916 that he had been killed then. He is also commemorated on the Thiepval memorial
