Notes
Hornshaw and Fowler provide the extra details. He was married and working as a porter at Todmorden Railway Station but, as a Reservist, he was called up on 5th August 1914. Wounded at Mons and again in November 1914, being hospitalised both times, he was gassed in August 1918 and was said to never really recover from this. He was demobilised in December 1918 and returned to his job as a porter but died of pneumonia soon afterwards. This was the only Calderdale memorial they found him commemorated on.
