Notes
The Roll lists his address as Cumbergate, and states that he was entitled to the 1914 Star medal. It wrongly records his date of death as 4/9/1914.
(CWGC records that Gunner C W V Taylor, regimental number 146339, died aged 20 on 2/8/1917 serving in 112th Brigade of the Royal Field Artillery, and is commemorated on Menin Road North Memorial 1 at Menin Road South Military Cemetery in Belgium. They record him as the son of Richard and Miriam Taylor of Malting House, Ailsworth, Peterborough. Soldiers Died in the Great War records that Charles William Victor Taylor was a native of Ailsworth who enlisted at Peterborough. The Army Registers of Soldiers' Effects record that he was serving in D Company when he was killed in action on 2/8/1917, and that his father Richard was his legatee. Contrary to the notation on the Peterborough Roll of Honour, the Medal Rolls do not record that Charles was entitled to either the 1914 or 1915 Star medal, and indicate that only the British and Victory Medals were awarded. On the 1911 census Charles William Victor Taylor, aged 13, had been living with his parents Miriam Julia and Richard Taylor at Back Lane, Ailsworth, Peterborough. His birth had been registered in Peterborough District in 1897, and his baptism was recorded in the Baptism register of Castor Church on 11/7/1897).
