Notes
The Roll lists his address as Gladstone Street. It states that he was believed killed in action in March 1918, none of which tallies with official records.
(The only soldier named Haxley recorded in the registers of CWGC was Lance Corporal Jack Herbert Haxley, regimental number 89380, who died aged 31 on 22/10/1917 while serving in 105th Company of the Machine Gun Corps, and is commemorated on Tyne Cot Memorial in Belgium. They record him as the son of George & Elizabeth Haxley of 12 Gladstone Street, Raunds, Wellingborough. Soldiers Died in the Great War records that Jack was a native of Raunds who enlisted at Rushden and that, prior to joining the Machine Gun Corps, he had formerly served in the Northamptonshire Regiment under regimental number 202986. The Army Registers of Soldiers' Effects record that his father George was his legatee. The birth of "John Herbert Haxley" had been registered in 1886. On the 1901 and 1911 census he was living with his parents in Gladstone Street in Raunds. He was living in Raunds when he married Florence Beatrice Mayes on 24/10/1910 at Raunds Parish Church. Jack/John Haxley has no recorded connection to Peterborough. It appears he was mistakenly added to the 1994 version of the Peterborough Roll of Honour due to his address of Gladstone Street, Raunds being mistaken for Gladstone Street in Peterborough).
