The Roll lists his address as 39 Duke Street, Old Fletton. It inaccurately records his name as "Jack", and that he died on 9/5/1916; he actually served in the Army as John William Ward, and he died on 9/5/1915.

(CWGC records that Private "John William Ward", regimental number 9440, died on 9/5/1915 serving in the 1st Battalion Northamptonshire Regiment, and is commemorated on Le Touret Memorial in France.
Soldiers Died in the Great War records that John William Ward was a native of Downham in Norfolk who enlisted in Peterborough. The Army Registers of Soldiers' Effects record that he died "on or since 9/5/1915", and that his father George and brother George were his legatees. The Medal Rolls record that John embarked on 12/11/1914, and that on an unspecified date he was tried by Field General Court Martial for "Wilfully maiming himself".
On 19/6/1915 the Peterborough announced that John was missing, stating that he had been serving in the Army for three years, and describing him as the eldest son of Mr & Mrs George Ward on 39 Duke Street, Old Fletton.
His birth was actually registered as "John Winnold Ward" in Downham District in 1893. He was baptised as John Winnold Ward on 26/3/1893 at Downham Market as the son of George and Harriet Ward. On the 1901 census John was staying with his grandparents John & Susannah Ward in Downham Market, while his parents George & Harriet were living in Gladstone Street in Peterborough; his parents were living at 11 Tower Street in New Fletton on the 1911 census).
