Notes
The Roll lists his address as The Green, Werrington. It inaccurately states that he died on 1/12/1917
(CWGC records that Private Charles William Wade, regimental number G/57240, died on 3/12/1917 serving in the 2nd Battalion of the Royal Fusiliers, and is commemorated on Cambrai Memorial in France.
The Army Registers of Soldiers' Effects record that Charles died "on or since 3/12/1917" and that his widow Gladys M Wade was his legatee. Soldiers Died in the Great War records that he was living in Whittlesey when he enlisted, and that he served in the 3rd Battalion of The Buffs (East Kent Regiment) under regimental number 23799 before joining the Royal Fusiliers. The WW1 Medal Rolls do not record that Charles served in any other Regiment but the Royal Fusiliers; they indicate he was sent to France on 27/7/1917 and was killed in action on 3/12/1917.
The birth of Charles William Wade was registered in Peterborough District in 1885. On the 1891 and 1901 census he was living with his parents John and Mary in Hall Lane, Werrington, which was given as his place of birth. On the 1911 census he was recorded as "William Wade", living with his widowed mother Mary Ann at Werrington. His marriage to Gladys M Goode was registered in Basford District in 1913).
