Notes
The Roll lists his address as Brunswick Villa, Walton. It wrongly records his surname as "Shepherd"; it was actually Sheppard.
(CWGC records that Lance Corporal E C Sheppard, regimental number 202044, died aged 25 on 28/3/1918 serving in 1st/7th Battalion Middlesex Regiment, and is buried in grave IV.J.5 at Maroeuil British Cemetery in France. They record him as the husband of F G Sheppard of 30 King Edward's Road, Ponders End, Middlesex. Soldiers Died in the Great War records him as a native of Wood Green who was living at Enfield Wash when he enlisted in Hornsey, Middlesex. The Army Registers of Soldiers' Effects record that his widow Florence G Sheppard was his legatee. When Ernest Cecil Sheppard's marriage to Florence Gertrude Rofe on 25/3/1916 was recorded in the Marriage registers of St James' Church in Enfield, his father was recorded as Albert Sheppard, engineer; Florence's father was Albert Anthony Rofe. On the 1911 Census Ernest's father Albert was lodging at Brunswick Villas, Walton, Peterborough).
