Notes
The Roll lists his address as 29 Wellington Street. (The Roll also records the death of his brother "Frederick Seaton").
(CWGC records that Private Arthur Seaton, regimental number 3/9577, died aged 24 on 14/3/1915 serving in B Company, 2nd Battalion Northamptonshire Regiment, and is commemorated on Le Touret Memorial in France. They record him as the son of George F and M.A. Seaton of 22A Wellington Street, Peterborough. Soldiers Died in the Great War records that "Arthur Seaton" was a native of Spittlegate, Lincolnshire who enlisted in Peterborough. The Army Registers of Soldiers' Effects records him as "Arthur Seaton, alias Mann", and that his legatees were his brother Harry and mother Mrs Mary Ann Mann. The birth of Arthur Edward Mann was registered in Grantham District in 1892. On the 1901 census he was living with his mother Mrs Mary A Mann at 6 Wellington Street, Peterborough; Arthur's place of birth was given as Grantham. [On the 1891 census his mother Mary Ann had been living in Grantham with her husband George Mann, from whom she had separated by 1901. Her husband George Mann was still living in Grantham on the 1901 and 1911 census]. On the 1911 census Arthur was living with his mother Mary Mann at 8 Woodland Terrace, Wood Street, Peterborough, but his surname was recorded as "Seaton". [On that census his mother was recorded as the 'wife' of George Seaton, but the marriage of George F Seaton to Mary A Mann was not actually registered in Peterborough until 1926]. On the 1911 census Arthur was recorded as the son of George Seaton. Although their legal surname was Mann, both Arthur and his brother Frederick enlisted, served and died in WW1 under the surname Seaton, and are therefore recorded as such in Army records and by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission).
