Notes
The Roll lists his address as 9 Wellington Street.
(CWGC records that Private J H Pollard, regimental number 3/10234, died on 8/3/1915 serving in 3rd Battalion Northamptonshire Regiment, and is buried in grave 7.3.2347 at Broadway Cemetery in Peterborough. Soldiers Died in the Great War records that James was a native of St Mark's parish in Peterborough. On the 1911 census he was recorded as "Henry Pollard", aged 26, living at 52 Martin Street in Peterborough with his wife Gertrude and their two children. On 13/3/1915 the Peterborough Advertiser reported that the body of a drowned man had been found on 9/3/1915 at the Dog in a Doublet lock. The inquest concluded that he had mistaken his path after leaving the Dog in a Doublet Inn, and had fallen into the lock. (As his identity was not known at that stage, his death was registered in Whittlesey as a "Male aged 35"). The newspaper report continued that, on hearing of the event, Mrs Pollard of Wellington Street, whose husband had been missing for days, had been to view the body and had identified it as her husband, James Henry Pollard).
