Notes
The Roll lists his address as 61 Churchfield Road, Walton; the Roll also includes his brother John Henry Long. (The 1994 version of the Roll of Honour omitted to include George, and wrongly ascribed his death details to his brother John).
CWGC records that Private George William Long, regimental number 2200, died on 10/7/1915 serving in the 5th Battalion York and Lancaster Regiment, and is commemorated on Ypres Menin Gate Memorial.
Soldiers Died in the Great War records that George enlisted in Barnsley. The Army Registers of Soldiers' Effects record his legatee as being his father, Frederick F Long.
On the 1901 census George was recorded as a native of Farcet, living with his parents Emma Jane and Fred Fincham Long at 30 Willow Hall in Thorney, Cambs. On the 1911 census he was 21 years old, living with his parents in Werrington, Peterborough. His birth was registered in the Peterborough District in 1890.
