(CWGC records that Private J E Jakins, regimental number 43135, died on 27/10/1916 serving in 6th Battalion Northamptonshire Regiment, and is now buried in grave III.B.24 at the Regina Trench Cemetery in Grandcourt, France, having been reinterred after the War. Soldiers Died in the Great War records that John Ernest Jakins had formerly served in the Bedfordshire Regiment under regimental number 26717; it inaccurately stated that he was a native of Farcet (he had resided in Farcet, but was a native of Loughborough). The Army Registers of Soldiers' Effects record him as John Ernest Jakins, but state that his mother "Bertha Jakings" was his legatee. On the 1901 census he was recorded as "Ernest Jakins", aged 5, living with his parents John and Bertha at 9 The Curve in Farcet; his place of birth was given as Loughborough. On the 1911 census he was recorded as "Earnest Jakings", living with his parents at 3 The Curve in Farcet. His parents' marriage in Loughborough in 1895 had been registered as "John Jakings" and "Bertha Dorina Taylor". His own birth in Loughborough in 1895 is recorded in the GRO Birth Index as "John Ernest Jikings"; his siblings' births were registered under the surname "Jakings". Among them was a younger brother Thomas Henry, known as "Harry", who also died in World War 1; he is listed on the Peterborough Roll of Honour as "Harry Jakings").
