(CWGC records that Rifleman Joseph William Holmes, regimental number 10201, died aged 21 on 17/3/1915 while serving in 2nd Battalion Cameronians (Scottish Rifles), and is buried in grave III.D.31 in Boulogne Eastern Cemetery in France. They record him as the son of William and Alice Mary Holmes of Rose Villa, Camps Heath, Oulton Broad, Lowestoft, Suffolk. Soldiers Died in the Great War likewise states that Joseph died on 17/3/1915, describing him as a native of Hammersmith who had enlisted in Willesden. The Army Registers of Soldiers' Effects record his date of death as 17/3/1915, and that his sister Elizabeth was his legatee. The Medal Rolls similarly recorded his date of death as 17/3/1915).
