Notes
The Roll lists his address as 14 Victoria Place, Old Fletton, which was the address it also listed for Alfred Holmes who died in WW1. It misrecords his regimental number as 25571, and incorrectly states he died in the 3rd Battalion.

(CWGC records that Private John William Holmes, regimental number 25511, died on 12/8/1916 while serving in 2nd Battalion Bedfordshire Regiment, and is commemorated on Panel 41 of Loos Memorial in France. Soldiers Died in the Great War likewise records that John was serving in the 2nd Battalion Bedfordshire Regiment when he died, describing him as a native of Farcet Fen who had enlisted in Bedford. The Army Registers of Soldiers' Effects record that, when he died, John was serving in the 2nd Battalion Bedfordshire Regiment, attached to the 9th Battalion Essex Regiment, and that his siblings were his legatees).
