Notes
The Roll lists him as Lance Corporal "Albert Victor Head", who it states died on 22/10/1917 serving in the Middlesex Regiment; it records neither his address nor his regimental number.

(The Roll of Honour was in fact referring to Albert Victor Coles, whose birth had been registered in Peterborough in the September quarter of 1898. Later that year, his mother, Annie Elizabeth Coles, married Albert Head in the December quarter of 1898. On the 1901 census "Albert V Coles" was living with his parents, Annie and Albert Head, at 69 Hankey Street in Peterborough. On the 1911 census he was living with them at 42 Bamber Street in Peterborough, but was recorded as "Albert Head" on that census. Although he had evidently taken his father's surname in civilian life, when Albert later enlisted in the Middlesex Regiment, he did so under his legal birth-name of "Albert Victor Coles". His military records are therefore all recorded under that surname. CWGC records that Private Albert Victor Coles, regimental number G/52565, died aged 19 on 22/10/1917 while serving in the 12th Battalion Middlesex Regiment, and is commemorated on Tyne Cot Memorial in Belgium. They record him as the son of Annie Elizabeth Head of 42 Bamber Street, Peterborough. The Army Registers of Soldiers' Effects record that his mother Annie E Head was his legatee.
When his death was announced on 24/11/1917 in the Peterborough Advertiser, the newspaper referred to him as "Private A V Head", the elder son of Mr & Mrs A Head of Bamber Street, stating he had been killed in action at the age of 19 on the 22nd October serving in the Middlesex Regiment, having enlisted on 13/2/1917 and served in France for five months. It was that newspaper report that led to his being recorded on this Peterborough Roll of Honour as "Albert Victor Head", rather than under his true legal surname "Coles").
