(CWGC records that Private William Cobb, regimental number 16942, died aged 34 on 14/7/1916 while serving in the 6th Battalion Northamptonshire Regiment, and is commemorated on Thiepval Memorial in France. They record him as the son of Fanny Cobb of 137 North Street, Stanground and the late Charles Cobb. Soldiers Died in the Great War likewise records that William Cobb died on 14/7/1916, as do the Army Registers of Soldiers Effects , which record that his death "on or since 14/7/1916" was presumed. William died less than six months after his brother John Charles Cobb, who was also named on the Peterborough Roll of Honour - as "Charles Cobb").
