The Roll lists his address as 22 Lincoln Road, Walton, that he received the 1914 Star medal, and that he was Mentioned in Despatches for gallant and distinguished services in the field. It incorrectly states that he died in France.

(CWGC records that Company Serjeant Major Ernest George Brown, regimental number 6015. died on 11/11/1914 serving in the 1st Battalion Royal Scots Fusiliers, and is commemorated on Ypres Menin Gate Memorial in Belgium; they do not record his Mention in Despatches - which was posthumously published in the London Gazette on 16/2/1915; Supplement 29072; page 1661. The Army Registers of Soldiers' Effects record that he died at Ypres, and that his widow Emily Florence was his legatee).
