Notes
The Roll lists his address as Minster Precincts. It misrecords his name as "Edmond Mansed Bowley", and wrongly states that he died on 23/1/1918; in fact, his name was Edmond Mansel Bowly, and he died on 12/1/1918.
(CWGC records that Lieutenant Edmond Mansel Bowly of HMS Narbrough died aged 30 on 12/1/1918, and is commemorated on Panel 28 of Portsmouth Naval Memorial in Hampshire; they record him as the son of the late Commander J.E. Bowly R.N., and the husband of Elizabeth Manners Bowly of 119 Cromwell Road, South Kensington, London. When Edmond Bowly's death was reported on 26/1/1918 in the Peterborough Advertiser, he was stated to be the son of the late Commander J.E. Bowley and Mrs Bowly, formerly of the Minster Precincts, Peterborough - which is where Edmond's widowed mother Esther Mary Bowly had been living on the 1911 census; the report mentioned that a memorial service for Edmond was to be held that week at Peterborough Cathedral. Edmond's service record at The National Archives (ref ADM 196/144/207) records his date of birth as 6/8/1887. On the 1911 census he had been recorded as a Lieutenant serving on HMS Superb. He married Elizabeth Downie on 21/4/1917. The 1918 Probate Index recorded his address for Probate as Lynton Harnham, Salisbury).
