Notes
The Roll lists his address as 119 Crown Street. It mistakenly records his service number as 24800 (it was actually Z/4800), and misspels the Navy ship as "Ortranto".

(CWGC record that Signalman HWE Bowles of the Royal Navy Volunteer Reserve, service number Bristol Z/4800, died on 6/10/1918 serving on HMS Otranto, and is buried in grave 1.13 at Kilchoman Military Cemetry on the Isle of Islay; they record no details of his next of kin. Horace's service record (TNA ref ADM 242/7; Scan number 0427) states he was born on 2/3/1894, and was the son of Mrs Bowles of 51 Amity Road, Portway, West Ham, London. He was living with his parents Mary Jane & Horace James Bowles at that address on the 1911 census).
