Notes
His biography on the College website (see References) reads as follows: 'Charles Dean Prangley, 2nd Lieutenant, 3rd Lincolnshire Regiment. Charles Dean Prangley was expected to join the College in October 1915 to read Modern Languages after attending Marlborough College. Born: 16 March 1897, Fell in action: 28 September 1916.
Our image was kindly supplied by Marlborough College Archives. Instead he accepted a commission to the Lincolnshire Regiment. He is not listed on the final University War List but his name is listed in a version printed in June 1916 along with ten other names who had been expected to matriculate in October 1915. There is, however, a short obituary for him in which his Captain wrote “He was a splendid fellow in every way. He worked and led as an officer should… I had absolute confidence in him” (Jesus College Society Annual Report, 1917, p33).
Charles’s father, also Charles was naturally heartbroken at his loss. The unusual steps that he took to remember his son are detailed in an article in Lynn News.'
