Hornshaw and Fowler provide the extra details and guessed that whilst the press listed his initial as J, this was W, the brother of Fred who is also listed on this memorial - and both are not on any other Calderdale memorial as far as they could tell. Both brothers were living with their aunt in Brighouse (their parents living in Leeds) and working in the same mill before the war. W (or J) died of a wound in his arm from shrapnel.
