Notes
Hornshaw and Fowler provide the extra details. He was originally from Maryport, was married with 5 children and worked as a miner at a colliery in Featherstone before he enlisted in November 1914. He served as a bomber and on the first day of the Somme he was last seen in the enemy trenches when the retreat was called. He was not found to have been commemorated on any other Calderdale memorial.
