Notes
Hornshaw and Fowler provide the extra details. He was an apprentice at the Brighouse gas works before he enlisted into the Brighouse Chums in October 1914. He served as a signaller (hence the mistake over his rank), survived being wounded in November 1915 and was ultimately killed by shellfire. This was the only Calderdale memorial they found him named on.
