Hornshaw and Fowler provide the extra details. He was not married and worked as a warehouseman at a mill before the war. He saw his elder brother, Walter, killed by shellfire only 4 weeks earlier - they served in the same regiment - before he too was killed: a memorial service was held for him at this church.
