Notes
Hornshaw and Fowler provide the extra details. He was engaged to a Doris and enlisted in September 1914. He fought in the Dardanelles and spent time in hospital in Egypt and Malta as a result. He was then sent to Essex as he was thought under-age and then served in Ireland before being transferred to France where he was killed by machine gun fire whilst acting as a runner. He was not found by them on any other Calderdale memorial.
