Hornshaw and Fowler provide the extra details. He was a telegraphist for the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway before he enlisted in September 1914. He served as a signaller and is also commemorated on IWM 2689. There is a photo of him on page 421 of the online version of Hornshaw and Fowler's work.
