Notes
Hornshaw and Fowler provide the extra detail. He was an apprentice in a mill before he enlisted in 1915. He served in both the Dardanelles and France and was killed in a enemy night aerial bombing raid on a tented, casualty clearing station where he was serving. He is also commemorated on IWM 2689. An Albert Bate, who lived at 41 Shroggs Terrace in Halifax (Harry lived at 41) was also killed in WW1 and is commemorated on 2689: Hornshaw and Fowler thought that they may well have been brothers.
