Hornshaw and Fowler provide the extra details. He was a noted swimmer but worked in a mill before he enlisted in March 1916. He was treated for trench feet in the opening months of 1917, returned to his unit by May but died later that year. He is also commemorated on IWM 2130 as well as the Tyne Cot Memorial.
