Hornshaw and Fowler provide the extra details. He was married with 3 children and worked as a weaver before the war. His age was given as both 30 and 33 by the press. His brother, Harold, was also killed and they are both commemorated on IWM 2224 and 2721: his step-brother, Ronald Shackleton, is also commemorated on this memorial and 2224.
