Hornshaw and Fowler provide the extra details. His family owned a cotton manufacturing business for which he worked after leaving school and university (he was a member of the Manchester University OTC). He also played cricket (for Todmorden) and golf before the war. he had been wounded and then returned to his unit shortly before being killed in Flanders. He is also commemorated on IWM 2224.
