Hornshaw and Fowler were not certain as he is listed here as Cyril - and a Cyril, serving as a Private with the Duke of Wellington's West Riding Regiment, died of wounds on 8th July 1916 - but there is also a Private Cyril Lawton Whiteley listed on IWM 2635 who went missing on 27th May 1918 serving with the Northumberland Fusiliers. It is assumed he is the former.
