Hornshaw and Fowler provide the extra details. He was married, to Ethel, and died as he returned to his billet: he stumbled, hot his head and fell into a pit of water in which he drowned. He was pronounced dead even though he was taken to hospital. He was not found by them to have been commemorated on any other Calderdale memorial.
