Notes
Hornshaw and Fowler provide the extra details. He had been born and raised in Sowerby Bridge and educated at Hipperholme Grammar School (although on their memorial, 2822, he is not named). He had set up a business of his own selling prams in Blackpool before he enlisted in 1914. He was wounded serving in the Dardanelles in August 1915 and was treated in Alexandria: he was wounded again in November 1915 and died from that wound in St Elmo Hospital on Malta. He may also be commemorated on IWM 2822 but given the difference in names -= there is an L Burdall - Hornshaw and Fowler were not sure.
