Notes
Hornshaw and Fowler provide the extra details. He was an ex-Regular who fought at Ladysmith in the Boer War and re-enlisted in April 1916. He suffered pneumonia, trench foot (which cost him a toe) and also served in Italy in December 1917, all before he was back in France in the spring of 1918. He died there at a casualty clearing station and was not found by them to be commemorated on any other Calderdale Memorial.
