Notes
Hornshaw and Fowler provide the details. The elder brother of William, who is also commemorated on this memorial, he was a joiner and wheelwright who enlisted in March 1916 only to be killed by shellfire whilst carrying wounded. A memorial service was held for him at this chapel on 13th January 1918 and he is also commemorated on IWM 2860 and 29453. He was buried '2 and a half miles west of Arras' according to the press (who also wrongly named him as Walter) - presumably a battlefield grave.
