Hornshaw and Fowler provide the details. The son of a monumental mason, he had travelled widely, to Canada and California, before he enlisted. He is commemorated locally - on IWM 2860 and 29453 - as well as on the Cambrai Memorial. His age was given by the press to be both 34 and 35.
