Hornshaw and Fowler provide the extra details. He was married to Emily and they had one child. As a Territorial, he was called up in August 1914 and in France the following April where he was wounded. he returned to his unit only a fortnight before he died in a casualty clearing station 3 days after being gassed at Hill 60. He was not found by them on any other Calderdale memorial.
