Hornshaw and Fowler provide the extra details. An unmarried mill worker who was a member of Sowerby Bridge Gymnasium, he enlisted in October 1914 and served as a company runner until he was killed by a shell splinter. He was not found by them to have been commemorated on any other Calderdale memorial.
