Notes
The memorial states he worked at Luddendenfoot as a shunter. Hornshaw and Fowler add the extra detail. He was the brother of David L, both originally from Hull, and was married to Elizabeth. He was a reservist who was called up in August 1914 only to be invalided home with nerves in July 1915: he returned to the East Yorks (his original regiment) in November of that year, was wounded the following September and returned again, this time to the West Yorks and as a Sergeant, in November 1916. He died 4 months later. He is also listed on IWM 2619 and 2625 with his brother.
