According to Bolton Remembers (see References) he was the husband of Mary Whittle (nee Greenwood), of 96. Blackburn Road, Bolton, Lancashire. He had previously served in the 27th Lancashire Rifle Volunteers but in WW1 he enlisted as 4204, 3rd Bn., Loyal North Lancashire Rregiment. He then served at home and in Gibraltar only. He died aged 64 on 20/09/1922 and was interred at Bolton (Astley Bridge) Cemetery on 23/09/1922.
