He was married to Susie and was a member of the Hebden Bridge Male Voice Choir as well as a singer in two church choirs: he worked as a parcel porter at Hebden Bridge Station and then as a weaver. He was originally from Todmorden, hence he is also commemorated on IWM 224 and 2653. He is also commemorated on the Arras Memorial.
