Notes
Hornshaw and Fowler provide the extra detail. He was not married and worked in a mill before enlisting in April 1916. According to a letter written to his parents by a man who was trapped with him, he was wounded by shellfire and bled to death in a shell hole in the support trenches. He is also commemorated on IWM 2130 and 29381.
