Hornshaw and Fowler provide the extra details. He was an unmarried mill worker who enlisted in August 1916 and won the MM for capturing a prisoner. he was killed by mortar fire in the St Eloi Sector, near the River Lys. He is also commemorated on IWM 2689 as is his brother, William S, a Gunner in the RFA who died of wounds later that year.
