Hornshaw and Fowler provide the extra details including the alternate spelling of his surname which they noted is used on the 2 other local memorials on which he is remembered. He was one of the many of his regiment, including numerous from the Halifax area, who were lost unsuccessfully attacking the Schwaben Redoubt on 3rd September 1916.
