Notes
Hornshaw and Fowler provide the extra details. He worked at a dyeworks before enlisting in August 1914. Twice wounded, one source said he was KIA but the press reported he died of pneumonia in 26 General Hospital which seems more likely given his burial place. He was the brother of George Fred, also commemorated on this memorial and, like him, is also commemorated on IWM 2738.
