Hornshaw and Fowler provide the extra details. His father was the landlord of the West End Hotel in Halifax. He was wounded by shrapnel and sent to a dressing station but never arrived. A message of love was sent by a Madge upon his death. Her is widely commemorated in Calderdale on IWM 2689, 2587 and 2677.
